LIONS TAP HISTORY

The year was 1855. The United States sold 91.2 acres to Samuel Davis for $114.00. On this piece of land would eventually stand Lions Tap.

The building that houses Lion’s Tap was originally the Peterson Brothers Vegetable Market. Beer was sold there as a refreshment, and a later owner converted the property into one of the only bars in Eden Prairie during the late 1930s.

In 1958, Sears and Irene Lyons took over the business and called it “Lyon’s Tap.” Irene began selling hamburgers for a quarter, grilling them two or three at a time in a small electric frying pan. Her husband introduced tap beer. Their innovations soon required a bigger grill and a walk-in beer cooler.

Bert and Bonnie Notermann bought the restaurant in November of 1977. Upon taking over the new operation, the Notermann's changed the name to Lions Tap. When they bought the place it was a good-going business, but they wanted to make it more of a family-type restaurant.

Today, out in suburbia beyond the fast-food factories and the trendy bistros, burger entrepreneurs Bert and Bonnie Notermann are still making your basic burger. Lions Tap - it's a landmark. Itís a tradition.
